Dynamic Compilation of DFS Fileset Name and Quota Information Based on Customer Specific Content Ownership and a Standard Naming Convention to Be Used For Capacity Monitoring and Notification

A program is disclosed which provides a method to dynamically generate a list of fileset(s) within a Distributed File System (DFS) owned by a specific customer/user to use in monitoring fileset quotas with a minimum of initial and continued overhead. The method used to gather this information is dependent on a set naming standard in which there is a customer root level directory below which all content to be processed is owned by the same customer. The algorithm allows for multiple customer root directories and/or one or more non-customer root directories above the customer root directory level. This invention provides a notification method for customer owned fileset quotas at or above a customer specific warning threshhold percent in which case the customer may be notified via a notification method.

This program is comprised of two parts: the actual program code and a configuration file. The configuration file specifies the customer specific information including base project name (the project name within the DFS namespace), the trigger threshhold and a notification list. The program code parses the configuration file to dynamically generate a list of filesets and associated quota information for all filesets owned by the specific customer/user. The list of filesets owned by a specific customer is created dynamically at runtime and does not require any additional tasks to be performed manually on an ongoing basis. Because this list is created dynamically, any previously created or deleted customer content will be accounted for at runtime. Searching multiple, disparate directory structures which are owned by the same customer is easily accomplished by including a naming standard of a root project_type variable above the standard customer root directory structure. In addition, any further changes needed, such as modification of the trigger threshhold or changes for a notification list/method can be performed simply by changing values within the single configuration file. If used with a valid notification list, the customer/user owner of filesets at a warning point can proactively take action to correct the situation befo...
