In an embodiment, a method for inspection of target track is provided, wherein the method includes configuring at least one vacuum port at a location facing the target track surface, in an X-ray tube. At least one tube e.g. a copper tube is connected to the vacuum port, wherein the tube is aligned substantially perpendicular to the target track surface. The tube is used for evacuation, exhaust and seasoning of the X-ray tube as well as for observation of the target track surface using a means such as a laser light device or a magnifying glass.

AN INSPECTION METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR TARGET TRACK IN AN X-RAY TUBE

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001]               This invention relates generally, to methods and systems for inspecting target tracks in an X-ray tube, and more particularly, to a method and system for inspecting target tracks in an X-ray tube having an insert with a metallic frame.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002]                Generally, inspection of an X-ray target track is carried out periodically, especially during exhaust and seasoning of an X-ray tube. 

[0003]                Normally, a target track is designed to withstand mechanical and thermal stresses generated due to electrons accelerated towards anode from a cathode.  However, due to variability in the processes for X-ray generation, the target track material (Rhodium, Tungsten) tends to get damaged leading to problems such as, for example, peeling of coating material, and as a result, abnormalities such as, track melting and lower X-ray output becomes apparent in an X-ray tube.

[0004]                For an X-ray tube having an insert with a glass frame, visual inspection of the target track is possible from outside of the X-ray tube and hence remedial measures can be taken instantly.  However, for X-ray tubes having an insert with a metallic frame, it is not possible to visualize the target track from outside and therefore use of special equipments becomes necessary.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005]                In an embodiment, a method for inspection of target track is provided, wherein the method includes configuring at least one vacuum port at a location facing the target track surface, in an X-ray tube.  At least one tube e.g. a copper tube is connected to the vacuum port, wherein the tube is aligned substantially perpendicular to the target track surface.  The tube is used for evacuation, exhaust and seasoning of the X-ray tube as well as for observing the target track surface using a means such as, fr example, a laser light device or a magnifying lens.

[0006]               In an embodiment, a system for inspection of target track is provided, wherein the system includes at least one vacuum port configured at a location substantially perpendicular to the target track surface, in an X-ray tube.  At least one tube e.g. a copper tube is connected to the vacuum port, wherein the tube is aligned substantially perpendicular to the target track surface.  The tube is used for evacuation, exhaust and seasoning of the X-ray tube as well as for observation of the target track surface using a means such as, for example, a laser light device or a magnifying lens.
