Abstract

A slicer for use in slicing a food product includes a slicer body, a slicer knife mounted to the slicer body, the slicer knife defining a cutting plane, and a gauge plate connected to the slicer body and moveable along an axis substantially perpendicular to the cutting plane. The gauge plate is configured to locate an end of a food product relative to the cutting plane during a slicing operation. A non-contact transducer is coupled to the gauge plate, the transducer comprising a sensor configured to generate a signal in response to a magnetic field, the signal for use in determining position of the gauge plate along said axis. The signal can also be used for providing a display of gauge plate position or slice thickness.
