Method and Apparatus for Providing a “Document Review” Printing Capability

Many documents are printed with the purpose of being reviewed by other individuals.  This invention proposes a printing system provide a “document review” production capability.  A user can specify a number of items when “document review” mode is selected.  Among these items are a) a format tailored for reviewing by a person, b) ‘for review’ watermark on document, and c) reviewer identification sheet.

Many times a person is printing a document for the purpose of being reviewed by others.  For example, printing a proposed Requirement Specification to be reviewed by a team.

This invention proposes that a printing system provide a “document review” feature that is user selectable.  The “document review” feature is available for copy and print jobs.  The system provides the following types of “document review” formats:

a) Backside ruled format — system prints the document as simplex with ruled lines printed on the backside.

b) Side-to-side ruled format — system prints each document page so it’s reduced to fit its long-edge on the output sheet’s short edge.  The system places a vertical line to the right of the document page with the remainder of the output sheet being filled with ruled lines.

In addition to the format, a user can specify to add line numbers and/or page numbers.
