Abstract

This invention proposes a photoreceptors code that is introduced in the non-functional area of the coating on the photoreceptors. The information in this code will serve the existing requirements but will also enable the electrophotographic hardware to recognize the photoreceptors that is installed. This feature will simplify the photoreceptor construction and control the use of improper photoreceptors.

Coded Photoreceptor

In current photoreceptor manufacturing technology, photoreceptors are marked by means of a laser marker.  The identification that is added to the photoreceptors provides information as to the date of production, the location of the manufacturing plant, and production details.  Reading the photoreceptors ID in the field is done manually and only limited occasions.

This invention proposes a photoreceptors code that is introduced in the non-functional area of the coating on the photoreceptors.  The information in this code will serve the existing requirements but will also enable the electrophotographic hardware to recognize the photoreceptors that is installed.  This feature will simplify the photoreceptor construction and control the use of improper photoreceptors.

The new code applied to the photoreceptors can be read by fixed mounted scanners in the manufacturing environment, by hand scanners in the field, and by scanners installed in electrophotographic equipment.

The current identification marked in the non-coated area of a photoreceptor gives a limited amount of information and is only used by limited parties. This proposal suggests a new type of code that is added to the non-functional area of the coating.  The code is added to the charge generator layer prior to applying the charge transfer layer.  This will protect the code from being damaged, modified or be removed on purpose.
