Abstract

In paper paths, it may be difficult for the user to get a finger under the paper when the device is opened for removal of jammed paper. The invention provides a lifting device that is below the paper path during operation of the machine, but it springs up to lift the paper from the surface of the lower baffle when the top baffle is raised and eliminates the need for the user to come in contact with a surface, especially when the surface is heated.

Paper lifter for jam clearance

In paper paths, it may be difficult for the user to get a finger under the paper when the device is opened for removal of jammed paper.  Solid Ink Jet printers often include pre-heaters to warm up the paper before the image is simultaneously transferred and fixed to the paper.  There is a concern for the comfort of the user who may come in contact with the warm surface when removing jammed paper from the heated surfaces.

The invention provides a lifting device that is below the paper path during operation of the machine, but it springs up to lift the paper from the surface of the lower baffle when the top baffle is raised and eliminates the need for the user to come in Contact with a heated surface.

This improves jam clearance by automatically moving paper away from the heated paper path surfaces when it requires grasping for removal.
