Abstract

In an embodiment, an image acquisition method includes generating a gate pulse to drive a transmitter in an electromagnetic tracker. FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001]   This invention relates generally to image acquisition methods, and more particularly, to a method for acquiring images using a flat panel detector in medical imaging. 

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002]    Generally, in an image-guided surgery, images acquired using a flat panel detector are prone to substantial amount of row-correlated noise in a clinical environment comprising a surgical navigation transmitter coil. 

[0003]   Various synchronization schemes are available to reduce the noise contained in the images acquired especially using a flat panel detector.

[0004]    Although the existing schemes minimize the noise content in acquired images, they do not allow the flat panel detector to run at high speed, with substantially no dead time for tracking, and also do not eliminate image distortion.

[0005]    Thus, a there exists a need for an image acquisition system, wherein the system allows the flat panel detector to run at high speed, with substantially no dead time for tracking, and also eliminate image distortion.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006]    In an embodiment, an image acquisition method includes generating a gate pulse to drive a transmitter in an electromagnetic tracker.  The amplitude of the gate pulse is maintained at predetermined low value for a predetermined first period and at predetermined high value for a predetermined second period, wherein at first period, the transmitter is disabled and at second period, the transmitter is enabled.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0009]    Various embodiments of the present invention provide an image acquisition method for an image-guided surgery. 

[0010]    FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 show an example of a gate pulse drive signal and a transmitter channel of an image acquisition method according to one embodiment of this invention, wherein the method includes generating a gate pulse to drive a transmitter in an electromagnetic tracker.  The amplitude of the gate pulse is maintained at predetermined low value for a predetermined first period and at predetermined high value for a predetermined second period, wherein at first period, the transmitter is disabled and at second period, the transmitter is enabled.
