Abstract

The editor of choice concept allows a PC user to specify one of the following editors: DW3, DW4, or DW36. Therefore, no matter which editor is selected, the user is presented the "Work with Documents" display as the interface to the editor. The user will select (create, revise, view) for a particular document, and the next display will be the edit display for the host or the PC. This concept is based on the profile options display, the host program, and the PC program. In the Profile Options Display, the user selects one of the editors (DW4, DW36, or DW3). This display allows the user to specify the path information needed to execute the DW/4 or DW/3 program. The DW/4 user may also specify the default format for saving documents to be RFTDCA (architected revisable form text) or FFTDCA (architected final form text).

The host program will determine the editor of choice based on the user's profile. When the user requests a function (create, revise, view, or print) and the PC is the editor of choice, the host program will build a parameter list and send a request to the PC program. The PC program processes the parameter list and invokes DW3 or DW4 program. When the host editor is selected, then the host program invokes the DW/36 editor. After the request is processed, control is returned to the host program. After the PC editor has completed the request, control is passed back to the PC program. The PC program builds the pa...
