Abstract

This article describes a program which manages access to various PROFS development information. It makes documentation created for increasing the productivity and quality of PROFS easily accessible. Just as documentation is needed to describe how to use a product and how that product works, it is also necessary, sometimes, to document the procedures used to produce the product. In the case of PROFS, the documentation explaining the procedures and tools for developing the product have been generated, but are located in several different places. It is very difficult for a person to remember all the places that this documentation is located. But with the PROFS Development Documentation Manager (PROFSDEV) as a front end interface, a person need only remember the name of the program, PROFSDEV.

PROFS Development Documentation Manager

The person would also need access to a common or departmental-type disk that would contain the PROFSDEV program. On invocation of PROFSDEV, the user would be presented with a menu that lists main topic areas and brief descriptions of the topic. The user would select a PF key associated with a particular topic to get more detailed information on that topic. Another menu with a more detailed description of the topic would appear. Sometimes it is not feasible to present all the detailed information online. In those cases, the user will be giving an option of printing the detailed documentation or using the browse facility of VM/CMS.
