Abstract

Disclosed are some procedures for the handling of anomalies which enable an import utility (a tool which migrates foreign data into a relational database) to successfully import files containing data which is 'mostly good' but has some values which are not acceptable for import into their target destinations in the database. The general philosophy is to accept as much data as possible, null or reject only the amount of data which cannot be successfully processed, and flag occurrences of invalid data. . An invalid field of data detected by a module reading a file of input data will cause a null value to be inserted into the database if the target database column is nullable. .
