Abstract

Provided is a technique which allows users to schedule calendar events in a manner natural and consistent with current use of paper calendars in order to overcome deficiencies in conventional calendar programs. Users are provided with conventional function for scheduling of events and providing descriptive information for the displayed calendar. In addition, the user is provided with an enhanced selection and information entry technique. The user is allowed to select the time of the event on the computer calendar. Then, the user is provided with a pop-up with the time/date parameters automatically filled in; these parameters can be modified by the user as required. Following the time/date parameters, another pop-up follows which allows the user to enter descriptive information for the event.

Users are provided with conventional function for scheduling of events and providing descriptive information for the displayed calendar. In addition, the user is provided with an enhanced selection and information entry technique. The user is allowed to select the time of the event on the computer calendar. Then, the user is provided with a pop-up with the time/date parameters automatically filled in; these parameters can be modified by the user as required. Following the time/date parameters, another pop-up follows which allows the user to enter descriptive information for the event. Additional calendar event parameters can be displayed at user request. However, once the user has completed filling in all necessary information, the pop-ups are removed and the information is automatically displayed on the calendar. Once displayed, the user can modify the information or apply direct manipulation to move the event to another time or date. The benefits to the user include reduced worksteps in entering and modifying calendar information and reduced learning time for use of the calendar.
