Displayed Selection Buttons

In a display user interface, menu items are displayed as three-dimensional colored buttons with a shadow to enhance visual realism. When a button is selected, the shadow is removed and the button border changes to indicate its selected states.

This user interface uses multi-colored (e.g., 256 color palette) and three- dimensional buttons to represent different classes of objects e.g., Text, Tabular Data, Images, etc., with the class being displayed on the button.

When not selected the buttons appear to sit over or above the background and have a shadow beneath as if lit. When selected the shadow disappears and the button border changes to reflect its selected state.
