Abstract

Described herein is a cassette that can hold 95 mm or 130 mm diameter disks and has a common automation interface such that disk cassettes of either size can be handled by a robot without the need for hardware or software changes. Thus, the size of the disk being processed is transparent to the line automation.

Described herein is a cassette that can hold 95 mm or 130 mm diameter disks and has a common automation interface such that disk cassettes of either size can be handled by a robot without the need for hardware or software changes. Thus, the size of the disk being processed is transparent to the line automation.

As seen in the figures, this cassette can be rotated in either direction coming down the conveyor and the bar code reader will read it according to the location on the bar code. The beveled edges allow for a quick and secure pickup of the cassette by line automation. Disks of

both sizes are on the centerline to allow the line automation to disregard the size of the disk (disks are picked up at their inner diameter location). Shot pin holes in the base assure positioning when the cassette is removed and put into its workstation. Disks are positioned in every other slot, and the 29 slots assure that there is always a disk on the outer slot, no matter which way the cassette is rotated.
