Abstract: A pliable electric submersible pumping system that is capable of passing through bends in well casing to an operational setting below the bends. The system consists of relatively small diameter electric submersible components (motor, gear reducer, seal/trust bearing, flex shaft assembly, and progressing cavity pump) coupled with flexible spools and special bolts. The progressing cavity pump, the longest system component, is intrinsically flexible while the assembly of the stiffer, shorter components becomes more flexible with the inclusion of the spools. Special provisions are made for banding and protection of the motor lead and power cable.
