Abstract

A portable unit with a handle may be inserted along runners into a frame. The handle includes a latching and release mechanism in which sprung fingers latch slots. Until power to the unit has been turned on, the latch can be released by a trigger on the handle and the unit removed. However, when the power is turned on, a bimetallic interlock prevents operation of the trigger. The latch can only be released and the unit removed when a predetermined time delay has elapsed after power has been turned off.

A portable unit with a handle may be inserted along runners into a frame. The handle includes a latching and release mechanism in which sprung fingers latch slots. Until power to the unit has been turned on, the latch can be released by a trigger on the handle and the unit removed. However, when the power is turned on, a bimetallic interlock prevents operation of the trigger. The latch can only be released and the unit removed when a predetermined time delay has elapsed after power has been turned off.

Fig. 1 shows the handle of the portable unit which includes and protects the catch shown in Fig. 2. The unit may be inserted along runner guidance mat 2 into the frame and guided by lateral guide 3 with finger-locating slots 4. When being inserted, the fingers 5 on the catch are expanded by tapered guide 3 until they engage in the slots 4.

Prior to power-on the unit may be removed by operating lever 7, pivoted at 8, when gripping handle 1. This lever will expand fingers 5 clear of slots 4 by use of joints 9.

A bimetallic strip 10 with a power supply 11 operated by an ON/OFF switch on the portable unit is attached to catch restraint 12. When power is turned on, bimetallic strip 10 heats up moving catch restraint 12 in the direction of arrow 13 into a position which prevents fingers 5 and the unit being removed.
