Abstract

The circuit comprises the following parts: a pre-regulator whose purpose is to give a KVBE voltage as small as possible sensitive to the variations of the power supply VPP and to allow a low impedance for the driving of the output E.F. This impedance is such that for a noise transmitted by CCB of Ts, the output E.F. transistor works like a base grounded transistor and is very fast, a voltage reference to drive the regulator, an output E.F. giving the power and the lowest possible output resistance when the loop is open, the amplifier of the regulator driving both the base of the output E.F. and a variable current source, a current gain compensation can be added in some cases.

This circuit is designed to give an output voltage of 1.6 Vbe's. This output voltage is the reference voltage for the current sources of a cascode current switch logic master slice. A good accuracy is required to allow the working of the cascode tree without a SBD clamp in its output collector circuits. Big variations of the output current have to be admitted calling for a very low output resistance. This circuit also has to be able to work with high simultaneous switching of the logic circuits (clocked circuits, especially latches), giving a high noise current transmitted to the reference voltage through the collector-base capacitance of the current source transistor, while giving the lowest possible noise voltage at its output. This noise voltage is amplified (Rc/Re) by the quiet logic circuits and transmitted to their outputs.
