Brailler Computer Interface

This interface enables a Perkins brailler to be interfaced with an IBM Personal Computer to be used as keyboard input device.

A brailler computer interface device includes an IBM PC interface card, an interface cable assembly and a software program that interfaces with a voice synthesizer to indicate computer response. The input device consists of a vacuum-formed ABS cover with ten mounted micro switches that are activated by different mechanical functions of the brailler. An activated switch indicates a ground condition through cable assembly to an IBM PC card mounted in the computer. The cover mounts on the bottom of the Perkins brailler or electric brailler by removing existing base and mounting with screws. Connector for interface cable assembly is built into the cover. See the figure.
