Electro-Mechanical Toggle Mechanism

Disclosed is a device that permits precise minute mechanical movement of an object. The device employes a pivoting ball in a socket and a sliding stylus that acts as a multiplexer.

Relative positioning of the object is achieved at one end of the stylus which is fixed at a distance from the center of the ball that is less than the distance of the opposite end of the stylus to the center of the ball.

Simultaneous rotation of the ball and the sliding movement of the stylus achieves any desired position for the object. This device is depicted using the magnetic clutch concept. This capability can also be achieved through an air cylinder and clamp mechanism.
