Multi-Functional Guide Rail System

A guide rail system allows side-by-side feature cards to be installed parallel to a main logic card.

The system described here uses one rail (Fig. 1) to do what previously may have taken two. This rail can be located and snapped easily into place on an already existing logic card (Fig. 2). The rail acts as a stiffener for the logic card. Also, because the rail interlocks directly with the feature connectors, it becomes an excellent feature guide and feature connector stabilizer.

The rail forms a sub-assembly with the logic card. It can then be attached to a base using existing snaps and two screws. Screws can be used if the base is metal or metallic-coated to form a ground with logic card.

The advantages of the multi-functional guide rail system are: customer ease of use, ease of manufactureability, ease of assembly - automatable, fewer parts, stackable - for shipping, and locater guide, stabilizer, stiffener, sub-assembly package all in one.
