Contamination Trap for Liquid Crystal Display

Disclosed is a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with a surrounding seal device which has a capability of trapping contaminants and gas due to Liquid Crystal (LC) material insertion

The LCD shown in Fig. 1 comprises a surrounding seal 6, an opening slit for LC material insertion 3 and a display electrode area 4 which is sandwiched by two glass substrates 1 and 2. This surrounding seal device comprises a separation wall 7 and a contamination trap area shown by hatched region 5.

When LC material is inserted from the opening slit 3, the contamination and gas are pushed in a diagonal area, and the separation wall 7 leads these into the trap area 5. These trapped contaminants and gas are isolated from the display electrode area 4.
