This station will verify a 3-digit number on the print wheel. The 3-digit numbers are black raised characters and molded as part of the molded black print wheel. Since there is no contrast between the print wheel and the 3-digit characters, it is difficult to identify. A special lamp assembly is used for this purpose. A 5-inch diameter fluorescent tube lamp is housed in a reflective cone- shaped housing. It is adjusted to approximately a 45-degree angle so that when the characters are illuminated a shadow is cast, thus broadening the character image. This is successful for the camera pickup illumination. Round fluorescent light is found to give perfect pin-point lighting with the ability to maintain the spot illumination with vertical adjustment.
