Abstract

This article describes a verification station in a print wheel cartridge production line which will verify the laser engraving of part number, name, quality and depth of the engraving on the cartridge and compare the part number and name of the print wheel with the three- digit part number on the print wheel that has been identified at a previous station.

This article describes a verification station in a print wheel cartridge production line which will verify the laser engraving of part number, name, quality and depth of the engraving on the cartridge and compare the part number and name of the print wheel with the three- digit part number on the print wheel that has been identified at a previous station.

The verification station consists of the following:

A. 5-inch-diameter tube fluorescent lamp.

B. Vertical adjusting precision slide.

C. Lamp-mounting assembly with X-Y-Z-0 adjustment.

D. COGNEX* video camera with special lens.

E. Left-to-right adjusting precision slide.

F. Support base.

G. Front/back adjusting precision slide.

The information from the previous station has been stored in a personal computer and used at this station for comparison.

Fig. 1 is a top view of the verification station of this disclosure. Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is a front view. The vertical adjusting precision slide B contains the COGNEX video camera with special lens D and the lamp mounting assembly C with an X-Y-Z-0 adjustment and is mounted to the left-to-right (X-Y) adjusting precision slide E which in turn is mounted to the front/back precision slide G. This slide G is mounted to support base F. The lamp-mounting assembly C contains the 5-inch diameter fluorescent lamp light source A.
