Document Hold Capability Based on Business Classification Scheme

A method is described to track certain classifications of document changes. A folder of information can be thought of as a collection of information similar to a folder in a filing cabinet. It is important to be able to track certain classifications of document changes over time.

This method provides the user with a protocol for tracking changes in a document based on a user-specified classification scheme. The protocol consists of a search command for all the documents owned by the specific user having the specified business classification. The search command would have "owner = specific user" and "document label = specified business classification". The search result list includes all of the unique library pointers for the qualified documents as input to the modify command to transfer ownership of the documents to the system administrator, change the expiration date to "hold" and change the access to "private".

Holding a document or set of documents based on a business classification scheme is an important function for folder applications.
