Searching for a Documents Within a Folder or Set of Specific Folders

A method is described to search for documents within a specific folder or set of folders.

In accordance with the new method, a protocol is provided for applications to request and perform a search limited to documents within a folder or set of folders. The library requestor application builds a search request that includes the following information: A name for the library search result which will contain the unique library pointers for the folder documents that meet the criteria. The search command includes a SEARCH-REQUEST-NAME operand with the specified search result list name.

The search criteria which includes the criterion that documents in the entire folder are to be searched. The search command includes a SEARCH-DATA operand that is used to specify the search criterion for the field values associated with the folder. To find all documents within the folders, the criteria must include an exact match for the folder attribute associated with the document. This criterion must be "ANDed" with any other criterion specified. For example, (document's folder attribute is set to "entire folder") AND (other criteria).
