DASD Frame Assembly - Grounding Receptacle Tabs With Safety Shield

This article describes a direct-access storage device (DASD) frame assembly which is provided with one or more connection tabs suitable for the attachment of electrical wiring by means of slip-on connectors and an integral safety shield to protect personnel from the relatively sharp edges of the connection tabs.

In the drawings:

Fig. 1 shows a DASD frame assembly in perspective in

which the receptacle tabs of this disclosure will be

used.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of

the tabs disclosed herein.

Figs. 3A and 3B are front and top views of this

embodiment, respectively.

Figs. 3C and 3D are end views of two configurations of

this embodiment.

Fig. 4A shows another embodiment in which individual

connection tabs are supplied in a strip form in which

they can be removed.

Fig. 4B shows the process for this removal.

Fig. 5 shows another embodiment in which a double row

of contact connection tabs is provided, extending

perpendicular from the surface on which the device is

mounted.

Fig. 6 shows another embodiment in which a single row

of contact tabs is provided, extending perpendicular

from the surface on which the device is mounted.

Referring to Fig. 1, a DASD frame assembly 1 includes provisions for mounting optional devices (not shown) in the areas indicated by arrows 2 and 3. This frame assembly 1 is electrically connected to ground. It is generally desirable that the optional devices be electrically tied to ground by a method that allows for easy installation and removal in the field. This is accomplished by means of a grounding wire 4 having a slip connector 5 which is attached to the device (not shown) and another connector (not shown) which is attached to one embodiment of a grounding receptacle 6. Because of the requirements for installation and removal of such optional devices in the field, it

is especially important that the connection and disconnection of ground wires from receptacle 6 be easy and that potential personnel hazards associated with the edges and corners of portions of the receptacle be eliminated.
