Abstract

This article enables a virtual function enhancement of the G3 facsimile (fax) network. When the fax works as a receiver, it can communicate with a sending fax executing more functions than the receiving fax has. These functions are performed by the third fax. The receiving fax passes all the information from the sending fax to the third fax if the sending fax requests functions that the receiving fax does not have but the third fax has. A function table, which shows functional capabilities of the third fax, is stored in the receiving fax at the initial settings.

Fax Reroute Function

This article enables a virtual function enhancement of the G3 facsimile (fax) network. When the fax works as a receiver, it can communicate with a sending fax executing more functions than the receiving fax has. These functions are performed by the third fax. The receiving fax passes all the information from the sending fax to the third fax if the sending fax requests functions that the receiving fax does not have but the third fax has. A function table, which shows functional capabilities of the third fax, is stored in the receiving fax at the initial settings.

Referring to the figure, after calling from a sending fax to the receiving fax via line #1, the 300 bps modem works and indicates that it can execute both self- functions and the third fax's functions. Then, the receiving fax gets function information as what the sending fax wants to do, and stores it internally. If the receiving fax has the requested function, it communicates with the sending fax normally. If the receiving fax does not have the requested function and the third fax is supporting it, the output of the comparator #2 turns ON. Then, the third fax connection section calls the third fax via line #2. After connecting with the third fax, the receiving fax sends a WAIT command to the third fax and a RETRY command to the sending fax. Then, relays #1 and #2 operate at their B side. This action starts a new entry operation between the sending fax and the third fax. After complet...
