Abstract

Disclosed is a facsimile function that, after receiving documents, enables the receiving facsimile to telephone automatically confirmation of receipt to the sender and/or the receiver with a voice message, to display the confirmation of receipt on the terminal of the sender and/or the receiver which is attached to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), and to answer an inquiry through the telephone line on the receipt by the sender and/or the receiver.

Disclosed is a facsimile function that, after receiving documents, enables the receiving facsimile to telephone automatically confirmation of receipt to the sender and/or the receiver with a voice message, to display the confirmation of receipt on the terminal of the sender and/or the receiver which is attached to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), and to answer an inquiry through the telephone line on the receipt by the sender and/or the receiver.

The sender is the originator of facsimile data, and the receiver is the addressee.

An operator inputs the sender's and/or the receiver's telephone number when sending the documents. If their name(s) and the telephone number(s) had already been recorded in the facsimile, the operator may input their names only. To display the confirmation of receipt on the terminal of the sender and/or the receiver terminal, the operator inputs the terminal ID in addition to the telephone number.

The facsimile on the send side includes the above information in the facsimile HDLC (High Level Data Link Control) data frame and transmits it with the message information to the facsimile on the receive- side. Facsimile on the receiving side
