This article describes an adapter for a currency transport mechanism, which does not require an actuator of its own.

Personal banking machines used in different countries are subject to the insurance and safety requirements applicable in such countries. To meet those requirements, safes with greater wall thicknesses (norm ally up to 120 mm; OEM (other equipment manufacturer) design) are supplied in addition to standard safes with a wall thickness of 12.7 mm (UL (underwriter's laboratory) design). For the different wall thicknesses, the safes must be fitted with suitable currency transport units. These units transport the currency from the input mechanism in the safe to the currency output station for collection by the customer.

To suit great safe wall thicknesses in the transport path, special transport units with their own actuator are installed in the safe to feed the currency from the safe's input mechanism to the currency transport unit installed outside the machine, such as the IBM 4736.

To avoid providing each personal banking machine with a currency transport unit suitable for each conceivable safe wall thickness (greater than 12.7 mm), a main transport unit A with its own actuator is used. This unit is installed in UL equipment without additional transport mechanisms (Fig. 1).

Machines with an OEM safe comprise the same main transport unit plus an adapter B to suit safe wall thicknesses exceeding 12.7 mm (Fig. 2)....
