Connector Pin Lubrication Tool

Lubrication of connector pins can be accomplished without excessive coating and wicking by providing individual immersion openings for the pins and a level maintenance arrangement for the lubricant/solvent mixture.

Referring to the Figs. 1-3, base 1, secured to support plate 2, has a reservoir 3 connected by channel 4 to lubricate filler port 5.

(Image Omitted)

The reservoir is covered with a grid 6 having raised ends 7 and a respective opening 8 for each pin of a pluggable connector block. Guide rails 9 are attached to base 1 at each end of grid 6 and have grooves 10 to align the circuit card when its connector block is lowered toward the grid.

In use, lubricant is diluted to the desired consistency with a solvent and poured into filler port 5. Overfill gate 11 maintains the lubricant level at the bottom surface of grid 6 and permits any excess to run into channel 12 about the periphery of base 1 in plate 2. The lubricant wicks into openings 8 and coats the pins of a connector block lowered into the grid. Because grid ends 7 are higher than the surface at the openings, the clearance between the grid surface and block surface prevents the application of excessive lubricant. A ground strap connection 13 is provided in support plate 2.
