Iconic Creation of an Object

Provided is a technique for creating, placing, and sizing a template for an object within a document to overcome difficulties in conventional methods to perform these actions.

The technique allows the user to work on a document and create objects of different types. The user selects an iconic representation for the object template, drags the representation into the document, places the icon at the desired location, and dynamically sizes the template to the desired size. During the sizing process, the icon dynamically expands and visually displays the template and its characteristics. Once the sizing operation is complete, the user can begin to interact with the template.

The benefits to the user are a highly visual technique to display valid templates to include in the document, a highly visual technique to locate and size the templates, and an easy technique to interact with objects of different types.
