Enhanced Cardfile Processing

Provided is a technique allowing users to directly manipulate and simultaneously view multiple "cards" to overcome the difficulties in conventional cardfile programs.

The technique allows the user to interact with cardfiles using conventional actions. The technique enhances user actions by allowing direct manipulation actions to take place on individual cards displayed within the window. For example, the user can "grab and drag" multiple cards to allow viewing multiple items concurrently. The user can also select multiple items upon which to perform a single action. The technique is generalized to apply to graphical page images as in document processing programs.

The benefits to the end user are reduced keystrokes to interact with the cardfile, enhanced usability by allowing users to view and act upon multiple cards concurrently, and a technique which applies generally to other applications.
