Graphical Character Attribute Setting

Provided is a visual technique for setting text attributes like font, size, and style as opposed to conventional and non-visual techniques.

Text or numeric display attributes available for modification are displayed in a graphic manner when the user selects the "change text attributes" action. The system displays a window with the available options and the current settings, together with a visual display of the effect of the current settings. The user can change one or more of the settings and see the result of the change in a real time manner.

The benefit to the user is reduced keystrokes to change character display attributes, reduced errors in changing the attributes, and improved usability. Improved transfer of learning across applications is achieved because the technique applies equally well to displayed information of different types, e.g., text, numeric, symbols, image, graphics, audio, etc.
