The spring device can be assembled to a predetermined length and have an adjustable spring force while maintaining the predetermined length.

Mounting flange 1 secures the device in location on a piece of equipment. Flange 1 has a depending tubular portion 1a and depending tubular externally threaded portion 1b (see Fig. 2).

Threaded nut 2 is used to adjust the spring force. Nut 2 has a relatively small diameter opening 2a and a larger diameter opening 2b spaced by a still larger diameter opening 2c through it (see Fig. 3). The sides of the opening 2b are threaded to receive threaded portion 1b. Set screw 2d extends radially of the nut 2 into the opening 2b.

Plunger 3 applies force to an object. Plunger 3 has an upstanding shaft portion 3a affixed to it which extends through flange 1 and nut 2. Screw 4 is screwed into the upper end of shaft portion 3a. Washer 5 and screw 4 are used to hold the assembly together.

Disc springs 6 are a series of commercially available disc springs. Nut 2 is tightened on threaded portion 1b in order to change the force with which springs 6 bear on the lower portion of plunger 3 and on nut 2. Set screw 2d is tightened on threaded portion 1b in order to hold the nut 2 in its adjusted position on portion 1b.
