Graphical Stapler

Provided is a graphical technique to provide the stapler function in order to overcome the deficiencies of conventional menu-based approaches.

The approach provides a visual presentation of a graphic stapler. The graphic has the visual appearance of a physical stapler. The graphic stapler functions in a manner similar to the physical world equivalent. Using direct manipulation techniques, the user "grabs and drags" objects to the stapler. As objects touch the stapler, the objects are visually attached to other objects previously taken to the stapler. Audio-visual techniques and icons enhance and complement the metaphor of the stapler. The stapled objects can be saved, mailed, or copied.

The benefits to the user are reduced keystrokes to execute the stapler function compared to conventional techniques, together with an approach that is easier to use.
