Window Indexing

Provided is a technique for indexing windows that are open to overcome problems with current windowing systems which overlay open windows and obstruct view limiting access to hidden windows.

The technique provides a visual tab icon for indexing selection whenever windows are opened. The indices are stacked. The user gets visual feedback on how many windows are open. To select a window to be placed on top of the current window stack, the user "clicks" on the appropriate index tab. The indices are displayed on one side of the screen.

The advantages to the user are reduced keystrokes or mouse interactions to locate windows and allow them to be brought forward. The user is also aware of which windows and how many are open.
