Grit Drive Rollers

Disclosed is a grit drive roller for eliminating ink smears or imprints on printed documents which use film or fabric ribbon.

Drive rollers which drive documents on the printed side have a tendency to pick up some amount of ink and transfer the ink back onto the paper. Using rollers made of materials with low surface energy is not feasible due to their low frictional drive characteristics. The grit drive roller 1 consists of a layer of grit particles 2 with high hardness and sharpness. The small surface area of the grit prevents the adherence of ink 3 onto the roller while the sharp grit particles 2 enables it to transport paper 4. Selecting the size and amount of coverage of the grit particles has to be tailored from the amount of pressure necessary to reliably drive the thickest to the thinnest document without any puncturing.
