Commit a Transaction and Hold Resources

Disclosed is an extension to the COMMIT command in the SQL that holds all resources obtained by the transaction (or unit of work) so that the following transaction may resume using the database as if no commit took place. The data changes are committed as if the existing COMMIT command had been issued.

The extension to the SQL COMMIT command is obtained by adding the optional parameter "HOLD" following the COMMIT command. The COMMIT command operates as usual if HOLD is not specified.

Specifying the HOLD option on a commit will cause the following to be maintained: all locks, cursors and cursor positions, and access plans. Data changes are committed but are not accessible to other transactions because locks are held.
