Enhanced Characteristics in Laminated Layers

A thermoplastic dielectric film coated onto a metal foil backing is used to laminate and isolate layered electrical circuits.

Improved laminates with fewer air voids and short circuits are obtained when the dielectric/metal coating is provided with a roughened polymer surface prior to lamination. A controlled roughened surface can be satisfactorily obtained by impinging air on the polymer surface in the process of coating the polymer onto the metal foil backing.
