A method is provided for a system to detect the presence of a feature card. This method can be used with any feature card that produces an oscillating signal.

Here, the oscillating output of a feature card is used to detect the presence of that card. The presence or absence of that card can be determined by detecting whether the signal is changing states or in the same state. Fig. 1 shows one implementation.

The system performs the following steps to detect the presence of the feature card: 1. Activates the Clear Feature Card Present Latch signal D.

2. De-activates the Clear Feature Card Present Latch signal. If the feature card is absent, the latch will remain cleared. If the feature card is present, the latch will be set by the next positive edge of the +OSC from Feature Card Signal. 3. Determine the state of the Feature Card Present signal. If the feature card is absent, the signal will be inactive. If feature card is present, the signal will be active.
