Reset Top of Form Operator Panel Selection for Cut Sheet Printers

Disclosed is a printer feature which facilitates operator recovery in circumstances where application and printer top-of-form positions are no longer synchronized on a page printer.

New printers are required to emulate the ASCII data stream designed for previous printers that supported tractor or continuous paper feed only. These ASCII data stream controls include the "Set Top-of-Form" and "Page Length" controls. When these controls are executed on a page printer supporting cut sheet paper, other than at the beginning of a new cut sheet page (i.e., not at a page boundary), these controls can cause top-of-form synchronization to be lost between the printer and the application. There is currently no ASCII control which can correct this situation.

The printer feature disclosed is an operator panel control which when selected resets the logical top-of-form to the physical top of page. This feature allows the operator to recover top-of-form synchronization without a change to the data stream or applications.
