Graphical Highlighting of Revised Objects

Provided is a graphical technique to automatically highlight revised portions of objects during and across editing sessions to overcome deficiencies of conventional editing techniques.

The technique provides conventional data entry methods for users to create objects. However, as users begin edit sessions, changes that are made to the object are automatically tracked and saved. As revisions are made to the object, the revisions are displayed in emphasized form. The user can control the form of revision emphasis. The revision emphasis is preserved across edit sessions under user control. The user can also suppress displaying revision emphasis while still preserving revision tracking.

The benefits to the end user are an automatic method for tracking, preserving, and showing revisions made to an object. Worksteps are saved and productivity enhanced in environments that require extensive user verification of changes.
