Figure 1 shows a wire lead 2 with an identifying label 3 attached. When the adhesive backed label 3 is applied from above and the ends brought together, as in previous label apparatus, a gap is created at 4.

The apparatus shown in Figure 2 is designed to close the void allowing the label to adhere to the entire periphery of the wire as shown at 4 in Figure 3. The apparatus accomplishes this by wiping the end of the label 3 around a portion of the periphery of the wire 2 with a thin flexible blade 5. The blade 5 is mounted on a shaft 6 that is lined to a double acting air cylinder 7. The cylinder actuates the forward and return cycle of the blade 5. Since the blade 5 is flexible, it compensates for the difference in diameter of wire 2.
