Abstract

Described is a floating connector housing which accommodates blind plugging of two assemblies requiring hazardous electrical connections. The housing is a two-pieced molded polycarbonate part. The two halves 1 and 2 of the housing snap together around an off-the-shelf edge card connector 3. The housing secures the connector to a sheet metal chassis4, but allows the connector to float horizontally and vertically. A tapered entrance on the housing aligns the connector with the mating card tab 5, providing blind plugging. Depending on connector choice, either discreet wire cable or a flexible circuit carrier 6 may be used to terminate the connector. The card edge entrance slot in the housing is designed to prevent entry of the IEC safety test pin allowing hazardous potential to be present on the connector. (Image Omitted)
