Multi-Function Disk Transferring Tool

The tool 4 can transfer one magnetic disk 6 or as many as fifteen magnetic disks 8 simultaneously to a shipping cooperating container or tray and position and snap lock the cover on the container.

The tool 4 has an interface 14 enabling connection to a robot that may move tool 4 either vertically or horizontally. Tool 4 has a horizontal spindle 16 with grooves 18 for receiving the fifteen disks 8 and has an opposite horizontal spindle 20 with a groove 22 for receiving the single disk 6. Piston 24 clamps the single disk 6 in the groove 22, while the multiple disks 8 rest in their grooves 18 by gravity. A container has disk receiving grooves for receiving the disks when deposited in container.

Tool 4 is moved vertically and horizontally appropriately so as to position disk 6 or disks 8 into the grooves of a cooperating container and then move back to original position. Tool 4 is provided with a vacuum gripper 28 for transferring the container lid to the top of the container. Tool 4 is also provided with presser feet 30 for pressing the lid onto the top of the container after the disks and the lid are in place.
