Improved IDC using Lead-In Blade Contact System

Disclosed is a new design for a typical insulation displacement connector (IDC) contact which improves the connector reliability by improving the cutting of the insulation as the connection is being made between the wire and the contact.

The design is achieved by coining the lead-in-blade (see FIG. 1(A)) during the normal manufacturing process (stamping) of the contact.

As the wire is pushed into place (see FIG. 2), the blade cuts and separates by laterally displacing the insulation allowing the wire to contact slot (B) without the presence of insulation and thus providing a much more reliable connection.
