Abstract

Disclosed is a dust cover to be used on pinned type cable headers and connectors which are used in most all electronic packaging technologies. The cover is designed to fit within the area of the header/connector, thus providing protection against damage to the pins. The cover also prevents contaminants, such as dust, fibers and chemicals, from accumulating on the pin contact area. The overall reliability of the contact system is improved by keeping the pins clean prior to plugging.

Dust Cover for Pinned Cable Headers/Connectors

Disclosed is a dust cover to be used on pinned type cable headers and connectors which are used in most all electronic packaging technologies. The cover is designed to fit within the area of the header/connector, thus providing protection against damage to the pins. The cover also prevents contaminants, such as dust, fibers and chemicals, from accumulating on the pin contact area. The overall reliability of the contact system is improved by keeping the pins clean prior to plugging.

The dust cover is a molding to enable high production and is thus available in a variety of sizes (lengths) that can be used with standard industry header/connector sizes.

The cover is retained over the pins with the header/connector latches (see FIG.1). For header/connectors without latches, the cover can be designed to snap-on as shown in FIG. 2.
