A compact head loading mechanism was designed which met the disk spacing requirements for a Servo Track Writer and Height/Glide tester used with closely spaced disks. The design utilizes two small rods 3 which slide under the suspension 4 and lift the head 5 from the disk 6.

The head loading mechanism is shown in the figures. The head suspension 4 is loaded and unloaded from the disk 6 by two small round rods 3 which are moved in and out of the head mounting fixture 7 by a small lead screw and DC motor.
