Interchangeable Window Menu Display Format

Disclosed is a window manager scheme that allows the user to switch the menu display between the vertical and horizontal formats.

In the X-Windows environment, the command menu can be displayed either in the vertical or horizontal format. However, they are not interchangeable. If the user wants to use a different menu format while running, s/he has to terminate the current running command menu and start a new one with the desired format.

This new scheme supports both vertical and horizontal menu display formats and allows the user to switch between them at any time through the SET pop-up. This gives the user the flexiblity to format the command menu that fits the most convenient mouse movement at one time, and obscures the screen least at another.
