Alignment of Backpanel Connector

The addition of alignment pins to connectors for insertion in mating holes in a support plate enables achievement and maintenance of accurate positioning between the connector and its plate.

Referring to the figure, connector body 1, only partially shown, has alignment pins 2 pressed into preformed holes. The connector is assembled on support plate 3 which is bonded to multilayer interconnector board 4 so that pins 2 enter mating holes 5 to precisely position and restrain the connector relative to plate 3. Keys 6, with respective screws 7 that pass through the connector and engage plate 2, hold the connector in position.
