Integrated Cooling System

Disclosed is an integrated cooling system which provides sufficient cooling to the (1) hammer unit, (2) logic gate, (3) power supply, and (4) carriage control card for the printer, shown in the figure. This is accomplished with a cooling distribution unit (5) which is integral to the framework of the printer.

The cooling system uses several innovative concepts to provide proper cooling to the printer. First, the cooling system uses a single blower which is integrated into the frame members and electronics hardware, minimizing the need for hoses, duct work, and thermal sensors. Secondly, the cooling vents cut into the cooling distribution box are designed to provide high velocity airflow across the electronic components. Finally, inlet and outlet acoustic mufflers were integral to the cooling system which provided significant reduction in noise level of the printer.
